Anti-racist educational method incorporating the role of colonialism

Project
In the fields of anti-racism and anti-racist non-formal education, white views continue to have a considerable impact on Germany’s educational environment. Global post-colonial viewpoints are hardly ever included in the perspectives that are offered in educational contexts and methodologies, which are typically victim-centered.
With this project, we seek to provide immigrant communities the opportunity to change the narrative by contributing their skills and experience to the development of innovative instructional strategies. We also hope to use power-sharing techniques by incorporating them in the development of the methods, which will be created, tested, and distributed jointly.

Process
We trace the development of our methodology through a series of workshops in which we exchange with one another about the history of resistance in our territories of origin, reflect on the consequences of colonialism, post-colonialism, racism, and other forms of discrimination, and where we define non-formal education.

Materials
Our manual, “The Journey Towards Other Perspectives”, offers a comprehensive navigation chart designed for individuals, organizations, or institutions aiming to facilitate workshops centered around a methodology based on global south perspectives, structures of colonialism and experiences of racism and discrimination. The manual is available to be downloaded or read online.
